Apache Land.
The San Carlos Apache Reservation, located in east-central Arizona, encompassses 1,834,781 acres. The majority of the reservation is within Gila and Graham Counties, a small portion is located in Pinal County.The mining communities of Globe-Miami, Winkelman, Clifton-Morenci are located near the reservation boundaries. Phoenix is 110 miles to the west and Tucson is 120 miles to the south. Safford is 28 miles east of the reservation. The reservation has two physiographic regions: the Colorado Plateaus province and the Basin and Range Province. The approximate boundary between these two regions is the Nantac Rim, the south-facing escarpment of the Natanes Plateau.

Mountain ranges include: a southward extension of the Apache Mountains, the Santa Teresa, Mescal, Hayes, and Gila Mountains. Mt. Turnbull, located in the Santa Teresas, is the highest point on the reservation, with an elevation of 8,282 feet. Several peaks in the Miescals are over 6,000 feet, and elevations over 5,000 feet are not uncommon in the Hayes and Gila Mountains. The Gila River is the major drainage of this province on the rreservation. The lowest elevation on the reseration, 2,050 feet, is found in the Gila Valley below Coolidge Dam.
